It's All About the Process

A couple of weeks ago I finished a wedding invitation that turned out completely different from what I initially thought it would. A bride contacted us asking for something casual. She works at Disney and the wedding will take place on a Disney Cruise, so she wanted something "cruisey" but not super "Disney" and not super fancy or formal....I can do that!

In the first round of rough drafts I tried to show her type that was mostly non-script and I kept their names in script just to add a little flair. Since it was a cruise wedding I figured a water/wave theme would go well. After she reviewed those, the water/waves idea got scratched and she realized she liked the script but wanted it all over. My first thought was "wouldn't that make it more formal?" but I went back to the drawing board to create something she'd be happy with. She also expressed that she wanted more "Disney."

The second round of drafts featured more of the Disney Cruise colors and here is where I decided to merge the Disney Cruise logo with the S. Then she emailed me asking if I could do something with stamps all over that had their ports of call. With clearer direction, I proceeded to try to create what she had in mind. I thought about how the stamps would look and had the idea of making it look like an old passport....and then I decided to take it a step further and curve the corners to make it look like the invitation was actually taken out from a passport...aaaaand VOILA!

Out for Delivery

Last night I finished putting together invitations that were too much fun to create. Our client is a yoga instructor and she wanted her invitations to reflect her passion for indian culture, since the wedding itself will have elements of her fiance's culture. Unfortunately I had to blur out some of the personal information but after the wedding, we'll be putting unblurred versions on our site :)
I can't wait to start working on the programs and seating cards for this event.

PWG Wedding Vendors Luncheon

About a week ago, I had the opportunity to attend a luncheon hosted by Professional Wedding Guide. Every third Wednesday of every month, PWG puts together this amazing event so wedding vendors from around town can gather, meet and network.

I must say that at first it seemed overwhelming being surrounded by so many people that knew each other, and I didn't know anybody. Thankfully, my good friend, Marc Harmon, was able to introduce me to some wonderful people including Jeff VerSchage from White Rose Entertainment. I've noticed that most people in this industry are incredibly nice and willing to network and help you network with others. All in all, I must say it was a great experience and I certainly look forward to the next event.

Don't Skimp on your Vendors

I was watching Good Morning America and saw this horrible story about a British couple who sued their videographer for a horrible wedding video. I was appalled! Basically the videographer did a terrible job and left the camera on the tripod on multiple occasions while he was shooting another wedding at the same time.

Amazing. The point I'm trying to make here is DO YOUR RESEARCH. This is your big day. Don't skimp out on a cheaper vendor just to save a few extra bucks.

Another thing that would've been a big red flag for me was the fact that the video only cost $500. Most good videographers are going to charge you way more than that. Unless the business is just starting out and trying to build a clientele, most vendors will charge you more, much more. Video is expensive. Although you may not understand videography - there is a lot of time and effort that goes into making a wedding video. You need good cameras, experience, and a great edit. A poor edit can ruin a video - and editing takes time. More than $500 worth.

So, point of the story. This is your big day - don't pretend that things don't matter. Get to know your vendors. Find out why they started their business. What is their background. How many weddings have they done? Also, do your research. If you think something is outrageous, maybe find out why. Here's a great article I read about wedding photography and why it costs so much.

In the invitation world, it's the same thing. Get to know us. Let us show you what we can do. Don't just hire us based on our website. Hire us based on our knowledge and our quality - we'd be more than happy to show you.

And the color for 2011 is.....

This reddish tone of pink is described by PANTONE as dynamic, encouraging and uplifting. We're starting to see this color featured mainly in wedding attire. On that note, I've been working on some designs for invitations that highlight this color palette. I know it's already the middle of the year, but I'm really excited about my work in progress on an invite that is as vibrant and refreshing as the color for 2011. I hope you come back here soon. Pictures to come! :)

Wedding Invite Love!

A friend of ours linked us to this wonderful website where we are now featured. Wedding Invite Love is an online directory of wedding invitation designers. I absolutely love this idea!

Again, we at Uniquely Inviting exist because we aren't fond of cookie cutter invitations. We believe every bride has a vision, a flavor.... something different. This website showcases different designers from around the country and I think it's great. Although we have lots of competition, we believe in great design. We may not be your perfect fit, but we hope you do find that perfect invitation. That's what it's all about, right?

2010 Disney Wedding Awards!

our Playbill inspired programs
This is so exciting! Each year the Disney Wedding Blog has their wedding awards! My programs won for best program / invitation a couple years ago and now Uniquely Inviting is back with a vengeance!

One of the very first clients we had, Vanessa & Ray, are now up for the 2010 Disney Wedding Awards for best invitation / program. We are thrilled for them! So please visit the site, scroll on the left to best invitation / program and vote for Vanessa & Ray.

Vanessa approached us as she was planning her wedding at the Swan & Dolphin hotels at Walt Disney World. She wasn't sure what kind of invitation she wanted but she told us that her wedding was going to be retro themed. She wanted a retro glam type of wedding - black and red and sexy! We were glad to help and created these gorgeous box invitations complete with feathers!

The invitation was fun to create and Vanessa loved them! It fit her theme perfectly and she loved that they were different than the norm. We started with a simple red box, added some ribbon, some damask patterns, some love and voila... gorgeous and unique wedding invites!!!

So please vote for Vanessa & Ray on the Disney Wedding Blog! Just scroll on the left and click Vanessa & Ray to vote. No sign up required.. just two seconds of your time. Thank you!
